Chapter 58: Ooooooo, the new cover!

December 7th, 2024 Blake Myers 2 min. read

Welcome back to Redink Blog! (I know, I know ... it's been a hot minute)

I’m so excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most thrilling and, if I’m being honest, slightly nerve-wracking parts of the publishing process: creating the cover art. Earlier this week, I received the first draft of the cover for my upcoming book. By Friday, the second round of revisions came in, and let me just say—they were phenomenal.

The designer presented four fantastic options, two of which were so incredible that choosing between them felt impossible. To make matters even harder, the A/B testing I did with beta readers and fellow authors ended in a near tie. After agonizing over the decision, I finally did the only sensible thing left: I flipped a coin. That’s right—fate stepped in to decide. Now that the final tweaks are underway, I’m preparing for a big cover reveal soon. I promise it will be worth the wait!

Meanwhile, I’m thrilled to share that the typesetting for all three versions of the book—ebook, paperback, and hardcover—is officially done. The paperback is a solid 377 pages, while the hardcover is a sleeker 337 pages. Getting here was no easy feat. Learning to use InDesign was an adventure all its own—I had to restart twice after making rookie mistakes. Let’s just say I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the "Save As" button. But the layouts are finally polished, the pagination is on point, and everything looks amazing. Seeing it all come together has been incredibly rewarding.

P.S. This journey, from cover art to typesetting, has been such a labor of love. I’d love to hear from you: what part of the book-making process do you find most intriguing? Let me know in the comments!
