Chapter 44: Kickstarter Campaign Completed!

May 17th, 2024 Blake Myers 2 min. read

Frist off, THANK YOU! So many family, friends, and former students (as well as a handful of complete strangers) rallied together to show their support and made this campaign a SUCCESS!

Only 41% of Kickstarter campaigns reach their funding goal, and I'm lucky enough to have attained that at the half-way point. While I fell short of the necessary funds needed for the two stretch goals of Audiobook Adaptation and Internal Illustrations, I will be able to cover the costs of the two most important goals: Professional Editing and Cover Artwork.

If you've been keeping up with my facebook posts, then you already know that my final draft has already been sent to the editor last week and is scheduled for completion by the end of the month. It's an exhilarating process and I can't wait to see the final product!

Of course, that timing is perfect for an annual Twitter pitch campaign called #PitDark. For 24 hours, horror, dark fantasy, and dark speculative authors from all over the globe flood Twitter with their story pitches. Agents and Publishers (from the mega firms to the small boutique agencies) scour the #PitDark hashtag for stories they find intriguing. If an agent or publisher likes your post, it's an open invitation to send your manuscript directly to them for review (which is expedited compared to the normal query process). Only completed and never before published works are eligible.

Along with that, I also wanted to highlight the cover artist, Fay Lane. Fay specializes in horror cover art, specifically gothic horror, that beautifually captures the genre. Her book covers pop off the page and stand out from the works in the digital releam (ie Amazon) and look even more amazing on paperback and hardcovers. Only downside, she's in high demand and I have to wait until November to begin our work together. I wholeheartedly believe she's worth it! Here's some of her work in the wild:

This month has been a rollercoaster running this campaign. I honestly didn't know at one point if I'd make it or not. I consider myself a very lucky and blessed man! So again, from the depths of my heart, thank you!

kickstarter, completed, success, #pitdark
